An emerging area of workplace discrimination that may keep the job applicant from getting hired is called by several names, "Appearance, face or skin blemish discrimination. If you have scars, birthmarks or other facial issues there is a good chance you get rated poorly in a job interview.
Several studies reveal job interviewers can be easily distracted from focusing on what the career seeker is saying and her qualifications if facial blemishes are present. During the course of the job interview an applicants facial appearance becomes the "qualifier" or "dis-qualifier" in the interviewers eyes. Most job interviewers in my humble opinion are poorly trained in the interview process to began with.
There doesn't seem to be much if any additional training being afforded them concerning skin blemish discrimination. As with every "new" workplace issue this area of employment bias will continue to evolve. Any type of facial or skin deformity will be another layer of potential employment roadblock to otherwise qualified candidates.
