In The News....
The recent revelations and events surrounding the professional basketball franchise called the Los Angeles Clippers is another reminder that realities such as harassment, bullying, ethnic and gender discrimination in the workplace and society as a whole are alive and well. Former player Charles Barkeley made a very insightful point.
He said that one of the most disturbing aspects of the phone conversation LA Clippers owner Donald Sterling had with his "girlfriend" was the fact Mr. Sterling is in a position of power and authority. This meant he could freely, unjustly and adversely impact the living conditions, employment and livelihoods of a lot of people. That's one of the areas of employee rights education I've been proclaiming!
I had a real world workplace experience story told to me which involved two female employees, one African American the other white Anglo-European. These ladies were co-workers and developed a friendship. They would go to lunch together and cultivated their relationship away from the job. Over time their manager a white male one day called the white female into his office. Thereupon he insisted that she immediately stop associating with the black female.
When the white female inquired why he would ask such a thing the reply was, "You know all they do is lie, cheat and steal". The white female was stunned and left the office. The white female was eventually transferred out of the department. Some time later the black female went on vacation and upon returning was amazed to be informed she no longer held the same position as when she left for vacation.
The manager in question held his position for 20 years within which this episode was purported to have happened. What's the connection with Charles Barkeley's comments? The manager was the Human Resource Director of a major local employer! An individual with obvious ethnic biases and discrimination who was in a position of power and authority to adversely affect the hiring and employment of 20 years worth of people!!
Unfortunately, both Donald Sterling of the LA Clippers and the example I gave ARE NOT the exception as some promote. They are however further validation that for job seekers and employees learning Basic Employee Rights is NOT an option it's an absolute necessity.

The first issue of Basic Employee Rights eNews was published on April 5th 2009. Having just past our 5 year anniversary we are still committed to Basic Employee Rights education, training, activism and advocacy to career seekers and employees. The American workplace continues to evolve and change for the better and the worse. There has never been a time when those entering the worklplace have faced more opportunities and challenges. I personally and professionally in the last 7 years have experienced some dramatic changes.
Some of you know I left the workplace in the fall of 2010 to devote full time to my two business passions, employee rights education and internet business building. There have been some successes and there have been some failures. However, for me the challenge to any endeavor comes down to this. Have I genuinely helped someone? Have I truly providing something of value to those around me? Well, over the last 5 years many of you and thousands of others have answered that question for me. You can't put a price on real testimonials like the following...

I can't really express how much that support has meant, especially when times are tough. I'm truly humbled and consider it a privilege to provide this much needed service. As part of the Basic Employee Rights Training side of my business I conduct seminar and webinar trainings. I also provide many no cost products and educational materials to those in the workplace.
I'm embarking on expanding these endeavors to specifically target middle, high school and college graduates and employees displaced by termination or layoff. With this comes the additional costs and expenses such as more educational materials, software, equipment, etc.
My vision is to broaden our Basic Employee Rights Education reach in a physical sense beyond my local community to other communities while continuing to expand our services and products to the internet community.
